Zumbiel's Beverage Packaging Division
First to Receive Forest Stewardship Council
Sustainability Certification
January 25, 2007
Hebron, KY -- The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) recognized Zumbiel Packaging's new state of the art beverage facility as an environmentally responsible paperboard packaging supplier. The FSC is an independent, international, non-profit organization that "supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests", according to the group's website.
Zumbiel's FSC Chain of Custody (COC) certification means that Zumbiel manufactures beverage carriers in a way that is conducive to responsible, sustainable forest management.
In order for Zumbiel to receive the FSC COC certification the company had to demonstrate its ability to protect the environment through sustainable raw material sourcing. "We feel strongly about sourcing our raw materials from suppliers who are committed to preserving the environment for future generations. And it is equally important that Zumbiel's customers have assurances that when they do business with us they are making an environmentally responsible sourcing decision. FSC certification gives our customers this assurance," said Ed Zumbiel, president of Zumbiel's Beverage division.
Zumbiel is the first major paperboard packaging supplier to the beverage industry to receive the FSC COC certification. The beverage category is the U.S.'s largest user of paperboard packaging.
